High School Varsity Head Coach
Maddie Johnson is a sophomore who started at 3rd base for me as a freshman. She didn't begin the season at third but when given the opportunity, early in the season, she took full advantage and didn't let us down. After that it became her position to lose and she definitely earned her share of playing time.
One thing I love about MJ is her ability to lead. She has been working hard in the weight room in the off season and been playing ball on an accelerated team all fall and summer. She's taken hitting lessons from Gordon Eakin and has also taken lessons from Kate Nygaard. Her desire to be the best and to get better all the time is something that I am very impressed by. She is currently in my weights class at the school and is the "leader" of her lift group. She is someone who I can count on to always give 110% and therefore she is a great example to the older and younger girls that don't quite have that same work ethic. Maddie's level of play, hard work, and determination is something that I would look for in a player that wants to play at the next level. I have had a few girls go on to play college softball and each and every one of them were hard workers like her. It is a quality that I admire and that is more rare in some of the athletes these days.
In short, I have thoroughly enjoyed having MJ as a player on our team, not only is she a great ball player but she is fun to be around as well. I hope only the best for her and hope she can be someone that you may be interested in as well.

Maddie is an outstanding young woman. As a student at Grantsville High School she is constantly demonstrating maturity and leadership in her academic pursuits and participation in extra-curricular activities.
